ROBERT BATH

MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Associate Director Robert Bath leads Whitby Wood’s team in Bristol, where his flexible outlook and wide-ranging experience in the construction industry is well-matched with the varied mix of project work. He joined the practice in 2018.

Outgoing and self-motivated, he is equally at home with special projects, such as loft conversions and house extensions, as he is with large commercial schemes. He also undertakes client management team (CMT) assignments and has heritage experience, working on the reinstatement/restoration of Grade I and II listed buildings.

By contrast, before joining us he worked on the new US Embassy building in London, as on-site civil engineer for the US Department of State (Overseas Buildings Operations) — a challenging role that included six contract extensions and regular reports to Washington. It further strengthened his abilities in the delivery of complex large-scale projects that require organisation and attention to detail.

Rob has worked on both sides of the construction industry fence: as structural engineer in all stages of the design process; and as resident engineer for mixed use, commercial, listed building and high rise projects. He says a thorough understanding of construction practice from a contractor’s point of view is invaluable in the development of effective engineering solutions and smoother delivery.

Seeing projects get built, thinking on his feet, the huge variety in his work — these are things that get him going.
