He was on-site civil engineer for the US Department of State (Overseas Buildings Operations), a challenging role that included six contract extensions, regular reports to Washington and a meet-and-greet with President Obama. It further strengthened his already well-developed abilities in the delivery of highly complex large-scale projects that require organisation and attention to detail.
Outgoing and self-motivated, he has worked on both sides of the construction industry fence: as structural engineer in all stages of the design process; and as resident engineer for mixed use, commercial, listed building and high rise projects. Projects include The Place (the ‘baby’ Shard) in London Bridge Quarter.
He says a thorough understanding of construction practice from a contractor’s point of view is invaluable in the development of effective engineering solutions and smoother delivery. Seeing projects get built, thinking on his feet, the huge variety in his work — these are things that get him going.
