WME UK is changing its name
We are delighted to announce that Whitby Wood is the new name for Whitby Mohajer Engineers (WME) in the UK, a name change that reflects how the business has evolved, and the start of an exciting new phase for the London Practice — providing innovative structural engineering for projects in the UK, and further afield working with our sister practice WME Consultants in Dubai.
WME in London together with its sister practice WME Consultants in Dubai was founded five years ago by Mark Whitby and Peyman Mohajer. The London practice was set up primariliy to support architects based in the UK working on projects in the Middle East. Since then, WME London has grown and, as a result of Sebastian Wood joining us in 2016, won an increasingly significant portfolio of UK projects. Our name change to Whitby Wood is recognition of this new dynamic.
In the last year, Whitby Wood has increased in size to 18 engineers, working on projects such as a new music venue for Edinburgh with David Chipperfield Architects, residential projects in development with Argent LLP and in construction with Hub Group, and a series of commercial offices with Knight Dragon. We continue to work in association with WME Consultants in Dubai, and recent work with them includes a major mixed use development designed by Foster + Partners.
While the UK business has been developing, WME Consultants has become a major practice in the Middle East, delivering a broad spectrum of engineering design and providing an architect of record service. It now numbers over 220 engineers. Working with Whitby Wood, WME Consultants continues to offer UK architects a seamless engineering service for projects in the region.
The principals of both companies have worked together for many years. Sebastian Wood first worked with Mark Whitby at whitbybird, the multi-disciplinary practice Mark co-founded in 1983. Sebastian became a director at Ramboll following the merger of the two companies in 2007. His projects have included BBC Broadcasting House, Cardiff St David’s II shopping centre and leading the delivery of a number of the new King’s Cross Central buildings with Argent LLP.
Peyman Mohajer also joined Mark at whitbybird, and founded that practice’s Dubai office. In 2011, he left Ramboll to join Mark in founding WME. Projects they have delivered include a number of high-rise towers and the 500,000 sq m shopping mall at Palm Dubai.
Mark Whitby is actively engaged in leading the structural design of many projects, in the UK and internationally.
Whitby Mohajer Engineers Limited has changed its registered name to Whitby Wood Limited. The company registration, registered address, trading address, and directors and staff remain unchanged.
