Terry Winarta

IDBE MEng (Hons) CEng RoGEP MICE
ASSOCIATE, GEOTECHNICS, UK

Associate Terry Winarta leads our growing team of ground engineers, dedicated to providing geotechnical and geo-environmental solutions within the industry. He manages a wide range of live projects, offering diverse ground engineering leadership for technical, financial, and programme matters from commencement to delivery.

His technical expertise focuses on design solutions for transportation infrastructure and urban development projects. Through early involvement, typically during feasibility and concept, he facilitates multidisciplinary co-ordination, works collaboratively with all stakeholders and produces bespoke schemes that maximise sustainability and exceed client expectations.

Terry sees fundamental engineering knowledge as key to developing high-quality designs. He says, “For me, specialisation in geotechnical engineering means being able to provide a concise and rational argument with a strong understanding of the subject, while keeping an open mind to new ideas and solutions.”

He believes well-designed engineering features such as civil infrastructure, transportation and public realms are vital in achieving sustainable urban development. Imagination and ingenuity in building design and management are important too — he grins, “I like cities and infrastructure, SimCity 2000 was one of my favourite video games growing up.”

Terry excels in engineering solutions for the built environment with particular experience in in ground investigation specification, geotechnical interpretation, ground modelling, earthworks, foundations and basements. He uses finite element modelling to analyse interactions between soil and structure, deriving efficient substructure designs.

Terry also helps other engineers with their continuing professional development. He is a supervising civil engineer within the ICE Training Agreement and a reviewer for the ICE Professional Review Application, as well as serving as reviewer panellist for the Register of Ground Engineering Professionals (RoGEP). In recent years, Terry has been part of the judging panel for the NCE Tunnelling Awards.
