Upcycling in Bristol : 100 Victoria Street

September 2022
Great to see the steel frame progressing at 100 Victoria Street in Bristol, where a 1990s concrete frame office building is being transformed — with floor plate extensions, two additional storeys, recladding, car parking reduction and low-carbon energy measures. The architect is AWW.

Work by contractor Beard Construction is well underway for project manager V7 (for CBRE Global Investors). The steelwork is framing up the new re-entrant profile southern facade, making best use of the building’s now prominent position following recent road layout changes. New perimeter columns are supported on transfer beams and piled foundations, with composite beams supporting the 5m floor slab extensions.

This project is a great example of the potential of existing building stock for creative adaptation. We specified a series of intrusive structural investigations to justify the existing frame for the planned load increases, and addressed the challenges associated with the flood risk. The lift core is being extended and a new fire-fighting lift added.
