Ryan Williams appointed associate : civils team strengthens
Ryan says, “Civil engineering is coming to the forefront in the response to climate change. Water management, in particular, is talked about at the highest levels, with the requirement for SuDS becoming enshrined in law. It’s absolutely necessary to provide a responsive civils service to help meet the challenges ahead.”
The capability and strength of the civils team has increased markedly, with expertise in SuDS (sustainable drainage systems), highways design and flood risk assessments. As Ryan says, “We are thinking and working at least five years ahead of the legislation. And there is little data available on the embodied carbon of civil engineering, so we are researching the sustainability aspect of materials and looking at whole-site impact in relation to infrastructure.”
Outgoing and sociable, Ryan loves the client- and industry-facing aspects of his work. Through contact with suppliers and industry figures, he has a chance to influence the market and help drive innovations. He is also very interested in talking to policy-makers and helping influence the direction of industry travel.
