Dan Growns

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Dan Growns has big plans for streamlining and fully integrating Whitby Wood’s software systems. He develops business applications for us and manages the software infrastructure for scalability as our systems grow, building in maximum efficiency with minimum friction.

In typically modest fashion, he shrugs and says, “Software development is fundamentally problem solving and I like to solve problems.”

With almost 15 years’ experience in this rapidly evolving industry, it’s not surprising that Dan is our software guru. He’s worked in full-stack software development for more than eight years, coming from a background in IT support and consultancy — a combination that gives him insight and understanding of the requirements of end-users. He specialises in designing high-performance database systems, developing software with agile system architecture created to respond to scalability, as well as designing and implementing software security.

Dan describes his role in the company by saying, “Someone at work dreams up something that is needed and I make it happen. I treat performance as the highest priority in my application development. As our network of apps grows, we are looking for better ways to make them interact with each other — for example, the emails you file can appear on your timesheet as suggestions.” He is “still working on” his goal of completing a fully interconnected app network, which he hopes will be realised by the end of the year.

Dan’s notable Whitby Wood software projects include PAPA (Projects and People Administration: key project metrics and quality assurance), MAMA (Marketing and Media Administration: data and texts for public-facing uses), MagmaMail and our current job management system.
