MEng (Hons) CEng MIStructE
DIRECTOR
Director Daniel Zwetsloot joined Whitby Wood in 2019, and believes his diverse civil, geotechnical and structural experience enables him to form a comprehensive picture of each project. Attracted to engineering through problem solving and construction, he thrives on variety and relishes driving technology forward to produce more efficient structures.
Daniel sees continuous learning and knowledge sharing, of new principles or methods of working, as key to successful project delivery. He radiates positivity and says the most valuable skill he’s learned is how to work collaboratively, productively and effectively with people, whether they are design team, client or contractor. He enjoys working with young engineers, viewing projects through their eyes and gaining fresh perspectives, as well as helping to develop and support colleagues individually.
While engineers are becoming more and more specialist, industry-wide, Daniel sees the value in being specialist generalists and taking the holistic view. For every project, he asks, “Is this the right thing to be doing here?” and finds creating an impeccable engineering solution enormously rewarding.
Among the many technically challenging projects he has delivered are One Ashley Road and Ferry Island at the Tottenham Hale Regeneration Project, building new structures over live railway lines and designing bespoke foundation solutions to satisfy complex ground conditions.
Other notable projects include gas holder redevelopment at Britannia Road in Southampton, warehouse refurbishment near Rugby and proposed extension of historic railway bridge at Arnside Viaduct.
