ASSOCIATE, STRUCTURES
Moira takes a holistic approach to design, and says she believes “nothing is impossible” in delivering “designs that are innovative and achievable.” She insists building strong, collaborative relationships is central to her approach. She explains, “It’s essential to understand and communicate the potential consequences of each decision as early as possible. Transparency supports informed decision-making and ensures the best outcomes. A successful project relies on open communication and mutual trust.”
When asked about her key strengths, Moira cites reliability, and the valuable experience and hands-on knowledge she’s gained from working on a diverse range of built projects. Managing and guiding the wider design team she explores scheme options, evaluates challenges, devises risk mitigation and investigates solutions. She oversees structural design and acts as a main point of contact for clients, delivering high-quality results and top-tier projects.
Moira says, “What inspires me as an engineer is the opportunity to design buildings that people genuinely enjoy being in — spaces where the structure itself becomes part of the architecture, and every element works in harmony to create the best possible environment for its users. It’s incredibly rewarding to contribute to designs that are not only functional and safe but also beautiful and inspiring.”
Equally important to her is mentoring younger engineers. As she says, “Seeing them grow in confidence and skill, taking on challenges, and developing their own perspectives is a privilege. I believe sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative environment strengthens our entire profession and leads to even better, more thoughtful designs.”
Her comprehensive experience showcases tall buildings and deep basements, steel and concrete frame structures, and refurbishments. She also excels at finite element analysis modelling. Among previous assignments is managing the technical design of a 1.975km suspension bridge (Romania), key roles in the design, tender and construction of a 58-storey residential tower (UK) and design input to a 200m long two-level basement podium supporting a 72m high commercial tower (Iraq).
