BSc
ASSOCIATE, STRUCTURES, UK

Associate Ross Spark is driven by devising uniquely creative solutions to complex challenges. Drawing on some 13 years’ experience working across Canada and in the UK, he says, “Structural engineering combines my appreciation and passion for art/architectural design with the knowledge of building materials and physics.”

Ross is an excellent manager, leading and supporting his teams. He enjoys connecting with others to achieve a common goal, instilling confidence by combining respect with pragmatism, positivity and engagement in collaborative endeavours. His strengths are project management and delivery, business development, team leadership and mentoring less experienced engineers.

He manages multiple projects, including the commercial interests and client liaison. He schedules workloads and forecasts the financial implications, attends design team meetings and workshops as well as reviewing construction on site.

Ross champions support for humanitarian initiatives, and he’s worked with Engineers in Action on developing and constructing two pedestrian cable bridges in Eswatini in Africa. He says, “We have an opportunity to improve the built community and better our society, ensuring beautiful, safe, sustainable and inspiring outcomes.”

He’s responsible for project delivery through every project stage, from concept to completion, plus reviewing calculations and developing contract documents. His expertise covers new build and refurbishment schemes of various sizes — from small sculptures and bespoke residences to large-scale multi-unit residential, industrial and commercial buildings — in steel, concrete, masonry and timber.

Ross’s most notable projects include 45 Beech Street major refurbishment, reconfiguration and vertical extension of existing office building for residential use, Market Square Basildon three towers linked by a shared podium for residential and mixed use as part of town centre regeneration, 68-71 Newman Street refurbishment, rejoining and vertical extension of two concrete frame office blocks with load transfer structures and The BeCa, Old Kent Road new concrete frame tower for residential and mixed use.
