Scott runs multi-disciplinary teams for the delivery of built environment projects in a wide range of sectors including retail, education, government, residential, sports + leisure, energy, transportation and mixed use developments. He leads the design of structural engineering design packages, drawing on his in-depth first-hand experience of implementing schemes at all stages — from concept development to handover. Projects range in scale from small retail to high-rise residential, and from car parks to stadiums.

A skilled all-rounder, he combines the responsibilities of consultant, manager, design engineer and technical expert. He collaborates productively with architects, clients, contractors, developers and other consultants during ongoing projects, and he relishes helping clients to resolve challenges and achieve the best possible solutions.

Scott sees how engineering roles are evolving — more flexible working, along with increased demand for sustainable projects, refurbishments and alterations rather than new-builds require fresh approaches. He is integral and proactive to Whitby Wood’s journey into sustainability. He ensures teams operate successfully in this emerging environment by nurturing and mentoring the people he leads, championing individual strengths and enabling his teams to reach their common goals. He stays connected with the latest developments and technical innovations, and oversees in-house training and CPD.

He has spent time working in Denmark and Israel on local projects, in India on international schemes, and has contributed from the UK to projects in Slovenia and Qatar. The work offered fresh perspectives on different cultures and working practices. Scott brings to Whitby Wood his expertise in knowledge management and working with a range of codes of practice, as well as an appreciation of the value of new design approaches and procurement methods.
