Tim Cunningham

BA (Hons) Geography LLB (Hons)
HEAD OF LEGAL + COMPANY SECRETARY

Tim Cunningham joined Whitby Wood’s team of directors as Head of Legal and UK Company Secretary. A qualified solicitor (England and Wales), Tim is our legal eagle and go-to authority on construction law, and commercial and corporate matters. His professional expertise, in the UK and internationally, reinforces the leadership structure, and underpins our motivation to be renowned for excellence in every aspect of our business.

Tim provides legal and commercial guidance, negotiates consultancy agreements, manages legal risks, advises on compliance and regulatory issues, manages our insurance portfolio, advises on data protection and develops training programmes.

As Tim says, “Consistently delivering great results and driving continued improvements strengthens the whole practice.”

Tim provides pragmatic and timely legal and commercial guidance across a broad spectrum of issues, negotiates consultancy agreements for high-value complex projects, manages legal risks, and advises on compliance and regulatory issues. He is adept at developing and delivering training to comply with statutory obligations — such as anti-bribery, competition and the Modern Slavery Act.

He also manages the practice’s insurance portfolio, where his insight and understanding of the professional indemnity insurance market is key to negotiating policy details. He provides advice on data protection (GDPR) and develops training programmes for the UK and Middle East on legal and commercial matters.

His wide-ranging experience includes more than 11 years with Ramboll UK. His dual role there combined holding a senior directorship in the UK with leading the company’s global mergers, acquisitions and divestments activities.

Tim is a member of the Legal & Commercial Group, a forum of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) advising on matters affecting the industry.

In his downtime, he enjoys football, cycling, swimming, hiking and travelling.
