12th International Conference on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development

June 2025
The Whitbybird Foundation was a proud sponsor of the 12th International Conference on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development (EESD2025), hosted by King’s College London on the theme of Engineers as Changemakers. The biennial conference attracts educators and academics from across the world with an interest in embedding sustainability in engineering education.

Sebastian Wood, Whitby Wood managing director and trustee of the Whitbybird Foundation, was a guest speaker at the opening gala dinner at Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and a panellist for the ‘Industry in Focus’ plenary session alongside Brian Holliday, Siemens managing director and Maria Jobenius, Scania Group senior sustainability strategist — exploring the drivers of the green transition and how sustainability is transforming engineering practice.

Sebastian said: “It’s a very exciting time for construction and for engineers. In the context of a rapidly changing world, the construction industry is going through disruptive change of its own. To grasp this opportunity requires the best minds, with diverse skills, in a modern, supportive and enjoyable environment.”

Sebastian is also a Board Director of the Schumacher Center for a New Economics, a founding trustee of the Construction and Development Partnership (CODEP) and a former trustee of the humanitarian engineering charity RedR UK.

The Whitbybird Foundation has its roots in the multidisciplinary engineering practice Whitby & Bird, co-founded by our group chairman Mark Whitby. The Foundation was set up as a charity in 2009 in support of engineering education and research.
