Nikola Tesla Museum competition

February 2025
A Howells-led multidisciplinary team has won third place in the open international design competition for the new Nikola Tesla Museum at Belgrade Waterfront in the Serbian capital. The project will transform a derelict 100-year old paper mill. Whitby Wood Popovic (WWP) contributed structural and civil engineering.

WWP made a structural assessment of the existing building to help inform which elements would be retained and refurbished or replaced, and played a key role in developing the concept design for the structural framing of several new building components. We developed a potential construction sequence for the refurbishment and new build works. Drawing on our local knowledge, we also provided cultural and historical insights for the team, informing the design process.

WWP director Saša Popović commented, “This collaboration with Howell’s team has again proved to be an engaging and rewarding experience. It highlights the synergy between engineering and architecture to achieve a quality design we can be proud of.”
